Conservation

Conservation" is a term used in various languages to describe the practice of preserving and protecting cultural heritage. Conservation encompasses a wide range of activities, from research, documentation, evaluation, heritage promotion and cooperation with owners and other users of heritage, from preventive measures to direct interventions on heritage or monuments.

Tasks of the Cultural Heritage Service

The main tasks include recording and documenting heritage, evaluating heritage, preparing proposals for entry in the Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage, preparing proposals for the designation of heritage as a cultural monument, issuing cultural protection acts for renovations, carrying out supervision of interventions, and various tasks in the field of popularisation and promotion of heritage.

Examples of good practice

The renovated Rog factory

We restored the 1920s late Art Nouveau façade, which posed a major challenge for the conservation profession.

EXAMPLES OF GOOD PRACTICE

Gravisi Tiepolo Palace

In 2023, the complete renovation of the Gravisi Tiepolo Palace was completed. Kreljeva 6 (Koper) was named after its owners as the Gravisi Tiepolo Palace, the Baseggio Palace and also as the Fighting House. The last name is most likely derived from the activity, as only oral sources can link the palace to the sabre practice hall.

EXAMPLES OF GOOD PRACTICE

The salterns through time

Due to all the recognised and declared heritage values, the cultural heritage of the Piran salterns must be preserved for future generations.
