We kindly invite you to submit your contributions to 14th International Conference of the Association for the Study of Marble and Other Rocks in Antiquity (ASMOSIA XIV), which will take place Ljubljana, 15-20 September 2025.
ASMOSIA (Association for the Study of Marble and Other Stones In Antiquity) is an international association of around 350 researchers from 25 countries, mainly geologists and archaeologists, working on the study of rocks used in antiquity. Members have met every three years since 1988 and have always organised their discussions around eight themes:
- Specific archaeological issues and the use of marble
- Proveniences of marble
- Provenance of other rocks
- Development of techniques, methods and databases for determining provenance
- Quarries and geology (extraction techniques, organisation, transport, new quarries)
- Stone properties, weathering and restoration linked to diagnosis
- Pigments and marble painting
- Limestones and other rocks of the Alpine-Dinaric-Pannonian area: properties, extraction and use
The deadline for submission of paper proposals or abstracts is 15 January 2025. Abstracts must be prepared in English on the abstract submission form.
The conference will be published in the context of collection of abstracts and later also Monograph with extended contributions.
Within the research community, ASMOSIA plays an extremely important role in ensuring collaboration and promoting an interdisciplinary approach by highlighting and promoting interdisciplinary research among geologists, archaeologists, museum curators, conservators, chemists and art historians.
